Über 14 Jahre haben Jørgen Leth und Andreas Koefoed den dänischen Komponisten und Jazz-Gitarristen Jakob Bro in Aufnahmestudios begleitet. Ganz aus der Nähe beobachten wir Lee Konitz, Thomas Morgan, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, Mark Turner, Joe Lovano, Andrew Cyrille, Palle Mikkelborg, Jon Christensen und Midori Takada bei der Arbeit im Studio und zu Hause. Sie versuchen, für sie existenzielle Fragen zu beantworten: “Wie fühlt es sich an zu spielen? Was bedeutet es zuzuhören?” Nicht immer können sie erklären, was sie antreibt und was sie beim Spielen empfinden. Was sie mit Worten nicht ausdrücken, vermittelt sich durch die Musik und den witzigen, doch respektvollen Umgang miteinander. Es geht um Typen, die einander sehr mögen und ihre Instrumente lieben. Es geht auch um Bescheidenheit gepaart mit Könnerschaft, um das Glück im Gelingen. Der Film überzeugt durch die Montage der Bilder, die Bros minimalistische und fließend melodische Art der Komposition auf die Bildebene überträgt.

Jørgen Leth and Andreas Koefoed have accompanied Danish composer and jazz guitarist Jakob Bro in recording studios for over 14 years. At close range, we get to see Lee Konitz, Thomas Morgan, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, Mark Turner, Joe Lovano, Andrew Cyrille, Palle Mikkelborg, Jon Christensen and Midori Takada at work in the studio and at home. They try to answer questions that are existential to them: "How does it feel to play?" Or: “What does it mean to listen?” They cannot always explain what drives them and what they feel while playing. What they cannot express with words is conveyed through the music and the witty, yet respectful interaction with one another. It' is a film is about guys who really like each other and love their instruments. It's also about modesty paired with skill, about the bliss that lies in success. And it is through the outstanding montage of images that the film manages to transmit Bros' minimalist and fluently melodic composing to the screen.
