Dear movie fans,
You’ll have to be patient a little longer until the 51st International Film Festival 2025, which will take place from January 30 to February 2. Once again, the Bürgerbräu grounds in the Zellerau will serve as our home, and once again the organizing Filminitiative Wuerzburg will present a diverse, unusual and international selection of films.
This year, too, there will be numerous events in the run-up to the festival that will be characterized by anticipation.
To mark our anniversary, we looked back on the history of the film festival and the city’s cinemas at the beginning of the year with the exhibition 50 Years of the Wuerzburg International Film Festival. There’s good news for anyone who didn’t make it to the exhibition in January or would like to visit it again. From December 11 to January 15, 2025, we will be repeating our anniversary exhibition in the Upper Foyer of Wuerzburg City Hall. On the evening of the first day of the exhibition on Wednesday, December 11, from 5.30 pm, a vernissage will take place on site.
Of course, the film nights at the Staatlicher Hofkeller are not to be missed. For the 21st time, films will be shown under the time-honored residence over three days – this year under the motto “BACK TO THE ROOTS” – gangster films of the 30s & 40s.
- Tuesday, November 19, The Public Enemy by William A. Wellmann
- Wednesday, November 20, Scarface by Howard Hawks
- Thursday, November 21, This Gun for Hire by Frank Tuttle and High Sierra by Raoul Walsh

Immediately before the film nights in the Staatlicher Hofkeller, we start with a documentary insight into the male domain of star chefs.

Admission is also at 7 pm and for free (donation appreciated), seating is limited.
Saturday, December 21, is also the date of this year’s “Short Film Night” at Central im Buergerbraeu. It starts at 8 pm, admission 5 euros.
Further information on the 51st Wuerzburg International Film Festival will follow gradually over the coming weeks.
